There are buildings that resist reinvention and buildings that invite it. This was the latter — a structure of such presence and raw material quality that our job was less to transform it than to reveal it. We spent longer than most developers would on the forensic work of understanding what the building wanted to become, and the result is something that could not have been produced any other way, on any other site.
